A BRIEF HISTORY: The Triple Crown races are run during a 5-week span each year from May to June at three different race tracks. A horse must win all 3 races in the same calendar year. The races are open to the worlds best 3-year-olds. Eleven (11) colts have captured the Triple Crown, while 44 others have won 2 of the 3 races. Listed below is additional details about the three races that make up Horse Racings Triple Crown quest.

  • Kentucky Derby
    • Track: Churchill Downs
    • Location: Louisville, Kentucky
    • Distance: 1 1/4 Miles
    • When Race Run: 1st Saturday in May
  • Preakness Stakes
    • Track: Pimlico Race Course
    • Location: Baltimore, Maryland
    • Distance: 1 3/16 Miles
    • When Race Run: 3rd Saturday in May
  • Belmont Stakes
    • Track: Belmont Park
    • Location: Elmont, New York
    • Distance: 1 1/2 Miles
    • When Race Run: 3 weeks after the Prakness
