Records Set or Tied in 2000 World Series
RECORDS SET
- Consecutive World Series Victories. NY Yankees set record with their 13th
consecutive World Series in Game One (10/21/00). That broke the previous mark of 12 established by
the NY Yankees (1927, 28, 32). The streak ended at 14 with a loss in Game 3.
- Longest World Series Game. Game One lasted 4:51 (12 innings),
the longest World Series game of any length in history. The previous record
of 4:17 was set on October 23, 1996 (Game Four), when the NY Yankees defeated Atlanta
in 10 innings.
- Most Strikeouts, Both Clubs in 5 Game Series. 88 combined strikeouts.
The NY Yankees struck out 40 times and the NY Mets struck out 48 times.
The previous mark of 77 was done twice previously. Todd Zeile's strikeout in
the third inning of Game Five broke the record.
- Most Plyers Used, Both Clubs in 5 Game Series. 47 players used. Matt Franco
of the NY Mets was the record-breaking 47th player used during the Series.
The previous mark of 46 was accomplished three times.
- Most Total Bases, Individual, 5 Game Series. NY Yankees Derek Jeter
set the record with 19 total bases. Brooks Robinson set the previous mark of
17 in 1970.
- Most Saves, Individual, Career. Mariano Rivera of the NY Yankees
recorded two saves in the 2000 World Series, giving him a career record 7
saves. Rollie Fingers established the previous record of six.
RECORDS TIED
- Most Strikeouts, Both Teams in One Game.Both clubs combined for 25
strikeouts in Game Three. The NY Yankees (10) and LA Dodgers (15) established
the mark on Oct. 2, 1963.
- Most Pinch-Hitters, One Team, in One Inning. NY Mets used 4 pinch-hitters
in the 7th inning during Game Four. It was the fifth time it had been
accomplished, last on 10/23/99 by the Atlanta Braves.
- Most Runners Left on Base by One Team in a Game. The NY Yankees
left 15 runners on base in Game One, tying the World Series record for most
in a game of any length. It had been accomplished twice previously.
- Most Wild Pitches in One Inning, Individual. NY Mets' Glendon Rusch
had two wild pitches in Game One, tying the record for wild pitches by a
pitcher in a World Series game. It had been accomplished 13 previous times,
last by John Smoltz on October 18, 1992 (Game Two).
- Most Pinch Hit Apperances, Individual, Career. NY Yankees' Luis
Polonia made his 11th career pinch-hit appearance in game one. He singled in
Game One, the most ever in WS history. He was previously tied with John Blanchard of the NY Yankees.
- Most Times Hit By Pitcher, Game. Todd Pratt of the NY Mets was hit by a
pair of pitches in Game One. It was the fourth time it had happened.
- Most Triples, Individual, 5 Game Series. NY Yankees' Paul O'Neill
record with 2 triples. It had been accomplished twice previously
(Eddie Collins, 1913; Bobby Brown, 1949).
- Most Hits, Individual, 5 Game Series.NY Yankees' Paul O'Neill and
Derek Jeter had 9 hits each. It had been accomplished nine times previously,
last by Alan Trammell in 1984.
- Most Strikeouts in First Inning of a Game. Both clubs combined for
6 strikeouts in the first inning of Game Three. It had been accomplished
twice previously, last by KC and St. Louis on October 24, 1985.
- Most Runs Scored, Individual, 5 Game Series.Derek Jeter of the NY
Yankees scored 6 runs. It had been accomplished 8 previous times, last by
Lou Whitaker in 1984.
- Most Wins By a Reliver in Series of Any Length. Mike Stanton of
the NY Yankees won two games during the Series. It had been done six times
previously, last by Duane Ward in 1992.
